Sometimes Political…you won’t believe me though…

Read on, friends!
The controversy is: one space, or 2 spaces after a period (or any full stop; an exclamation point, for instance, or a question mark). Since I learned to type way back in the days of typewriters 🙄, I do often automatically type 2 spaces after the end of a sentence, without even thinking. (More on that in a bit.)
I am a bit of a grammar geek – a “wordie,” more than a “foodie.” So, stuff like this is interesting to me. When I realized that there were also politics and cultural norms involved in this grammar dilemma, I had to think about and research this a bit more.

This seems a tad age-ist. Except, I really don’t care enough to be into worrying about stuff like that…or having such a strong opinion!
When I researched this issue (I get it; to some, it’s a non-issue), I was amazed at all the jokes, memes, comics, serious discussions, judgments, and ageist comments I ran across. This obviously touches a nerve in our society!

Microsoft flags 2 spaces after a full stop as an error.

The reasons some of us automatically type 2 spaces after a full stop has to do with the difference between typing on a typewriter (resulting in monospacing), and typing on a computer keyboard (proportional spacing).

See now, this is brilliant, because ostensibly, the cartoonist is discussing writing style, but…it’s really about politics and misdirection, right?

What do you do? Does this bother you at all? I’d love to hear your comments.
Oooohhh…and then, there’s the Oxford comma…that’ll need to be another post…😂
