Global Entry, TSA Pre✓, Mobile Passport, CLEAR, and more for no-hassle travel
updated April 2022
We all love to travel, but airport lines are ridiculous! The stress, the crowds, the lines…yet we do it, because we’ve gotta get out there and explore the world, right?! Here’s the best way to avoid airport lines – Let’s get some no-hassle travel going.
Doesn’t it drive you NUTS… You stand in line at the ticket counter, then the security line, and don’t forget about the customs line!!!!!!
Then, suddenly…
…a guy walks by everyone and passes through the same security gate that you are…He doesn’t have to remove his shoes (F#$@ that shoe bomber), doesn’t have to take off his belt or take his computer & phone out of his bag!
Who is this guy? He must be some big shot. Super rich? NOPE…he just knows how to play the game. That’s what I’m going to teach you…the game.
My goal is to help you learn to travel easily, on a shoestring; this is one of my top strategies for no-hassle travel – Global Entry™, which includes TSA Pre✓™
The Trusted Traveler Programs
The chart below shows that Global Entry will speed your entry into the US from international destinations, while TSA Pre✓ expedites departures from the US. I recommend both to avoid lines on both ends.
The Trusted Traveler Programs (Global Entry, TSA Pre✓, and others) are risk-based programs to facilitate the entry of pre-approved travelers. No-hassle travel, for sure.
As you can see, Global Entry automatically includes TSA Pre✓!
CLEAR
The CLEAR Program
CLEAR membership expedites security screening using your personal biometric information, allowing you to bypass normal TSA security and gets you to the front of the TSA PreCheck lines!
The primary function of the CLEAR program is to speed you through the ID process at airport security. You do not get to skip TSA security entirely – it simply eliminates waiting in those lines.
Plus – the app will create a QR code for your Covid vaccination records.
Additional uses are being added all the time, including using CLEAR to access sports stadiums for events, enter airport lounges, for alcohol purchases, and to fast-track rental car pickups without waiting in line. Find out more about CLEAR.
Get Global Entry or TSA Pre✓ for free!
*Some premium credit cards provide you with a Global Entry or TSA Pre✓ application fee statement credit–so it winds up costing nothing! Some of these have other great travel perqs as well. Here’s a list of some cards with the credit:
- *AmEx Platinum Cards – the ONLY cards that credits this *and* CLEAR!
- Capital One Venture X
- United Explorer Card
- Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business Card
- Chase Sapphire Reserve
- Mastercard Black
- Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite
Global Entry costs $100 every 5 years–which is completely worth it, but, even better…you can get it for yourself and your families or friends for free!
If you just can’t get Global Entry for some reason (there are reported delays in the applications and interview process due to the pandemic), Mobile Passport and its app will definitely help you to avoid lines when entering the US. Here’s an article that discusses Mobile Passport, and some other benefits of having it.
I’m on a rant about this, because lately I’ve traveled with a friend who does not have Global Entry or TSA Pre✓ – and last year, when we entered the US at the Philadelphia airport, their passport scanning machines were down. I breezed through customs, even ahead of the airline crews, but had to wait 2½ hours for him to come through. Not good.

I used Mobile Passport on my last international trip. Saved HOURS standing in line to go through customs in New York City.
Isn’t it great?!
The cards were a great life saver when we travelled.Definitely recommend them!
I’ve been so tempted to do this and haven’t pulled the trigger! Guess it wouldn’t matter much right now but I hope to be a frequent flier again in the future.
I actually have an appointment tomorrow to get the TSA precheck clearance! So worth it.
I’m sure my US friend will benefit form this blog. We all dislike waiting and waiting in line especially with kids.
I would love to do this when I start traveling by air again.
These are great tips! Hopefully travel will be easier in the near future and we can travel freely again!
You always have the best travel tips!!
I got my TSA Pre done and didn’t get Global Entry because I can’t make it to the interview times and limited availabilities. I hope to get that done and get my husband on it too!
This is such a great thing to do if flying regularly.
I LOVE my NEXXUS card! I really don’t know why I waited so long to get it either! Being Canadian, its the only one that applies… and is worth every penny! And bonus… kids are free until they turn 18!
This sounds great for international travelers!
Seems that there have been a lot of GE’s revoked this year. Funny time to happen since no one is traveling.
That would be handy. I’m trying to figure out how to get through the process faster with kids!
Yes, my Chase Sapphire card paid for this for me and I love it! TSA Pre is the best thing ever!
What GREAT advice! WOW!
So many great travel tips & tricks as always.
We have to do this – determined to travel more and was going to last year, then pandemic. Thankfully we have one of the credit cards you listed – time to start the process!
2 1/2 hour wait! Oh my! This is great info for skipping those lines.
I’ve been thinking about getting the PSA Pre-Check but now it looks like the Global Entry is a better deal.
Definitely a better deal to get GE!
I’ve always wondered how the TSA precheck worked. I’m always envious of those people! Haha.
Good to know, especially about getting it for free.
Thank you! I need to renew this year! Great tips and information!
This is so helpful for those that travel frequently!! Thank you for sharing!
